Dacian War scene
Romans and Dacians in combat during the Dacian Wars (101-102, 105-106; during rule of Trajan.) From a bas-relief at the Louvre. Fragment that might have belonged to a triumphal arch. The dress of the barbarian--two tunics, one long, the other with short sleeves--is the same as that of the Daci sculptured on Trajan's Column. The conical hut of reeds adorned with branches of oak recall the habitations of the Germans.
