18th-century manuscript about Meridian line dividing Spain and Portugal
Title page of Historical and geographical description on the demarcation of the Meridian line between the domains of Spain and Portugal, by Don Jorge Juan and Don Antonio de Ulloa. Published in Madrid in 1749. This authors of this manuscript were employed to measure the meridian line, which was devised as part of the Treaty of Tordesillas approved by Pope Alexander VI to delineate the territories claimed by Portugal and Spain.
