Trojan horse
19th-century illustration, "The Wooden Horse." This engraving depicts a military device from the Trojan War, as described in the epic poems of Homer. According to the legend, the Trojans believed that the Greeks had eneded their siege of Troy, leaving behind a wooden horse as a gift. When the horse was brought into the gates of the city, Greek soldiers emerged from within the giant structure.
