Woman in plumed hat during height of feather trade
Woman in a plumed hat. Undated image (probably ca. 1900-1915.) Note: Feathers on ladies’ hats were very fashionable during the late 19th century, but conservation and animal welfare activists succeeded in banning the feather trade with state legislation and the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918.
